Mercedes's ultimate C-Class just barely made it on the list with 503-hp from its twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8. It costs more than all of its rivals, save the Alfa, but it's the most luxurious car on this list. And that V-8 is a monster.

Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio - 505 HP - $74,500
The Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio costs about as much as the C63 S and has just a bit more power. They couldn't feel more different, though. Where the AMG is luxurious and rapid, the Alfa offers sharp, supercar-like handling. And hey, this 505-hp 2.9-liter V-6 is basically a Ferrari V-8 with two cylinders chopped off.

It was a big deal when the E60-generation M5 was the first of its kind to crest 500 horsepower. Now, you can get 523 from this M550i, courtesy of a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V-8. It's not an M5, but it's still a lot of car.

Sadly, we don't get the C63 wagon here in the U.S., so if you're looking for something more practical than a C63 sedan, you'll need to go SUV. The GLC 63 S SUV and its fastback coupe sibling take the C63's engine, pairs it with four-wheel drive, and puts it in a taller body.

The Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio is essentially a Giulia Quadrifoglio in SUV form. It uses the same basic platform and 505-hp twin-turbo V-6, but here, it sends its power to the front and rear axles. It drives a heck of a lot like the Giulia too.

The base six-cylinder X5 is more than powerful enough, but BMW saw fit to put the same V-8 as the M550i in its mid-size SUV. If you don't think that's enough, there's the new X5 M, but that'll cost over $100,000. And if you want the same basic thing in a less practical package with fussier styling, step up to the X6.

While not as powerful as the 575-hp Sport SVR, the Range Rover Sport Supercharged gets by fine with 518 horsepower from its 5.0-liter supercharged V-8. Starting at $86,500, it's actually a good deal among SUVs with way more power than necessary.
